Gay couples only adopt to molest says US
Representative
Pink News Katherine Knowles March 28, 2006 As the gay adoption debate shows no signs of resolution in America, the Representative for Hendersonville, Debra Maggart, says she believes gay couples may adopt children for the purpose of molesting them. In a public email correspondence with a master's student at Vanderbilt University she argued against gay adoption on moral and safely grounds. "We also have seen evidence that homosexual couples prey on young males and have, in some instances, adopted them in order to have unfretted access to subject them to a life of molestation and sexual abuse," she claimed. Maggart asserts that her opinion is based in scientific research from Focus on Family, a Christian group. This reputedly proves that many gay couples have emotional dysfunction and psychological issues, which would not be healthy for children to be around. "I have strong convictions," said Maggart. "I just feel kids in our foster care have been through enough. They need the optimum family unit, and that is a mother and a father." Commentary: |
